By buying a bag, or bags (really, let’s think big), you not only change the lives of the women weavers in Guatemala, but you change the lives of women around the world. How, you might ask? Well, built into the cost of each bag you buy is a donation to a refugee woman or girl most in need through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The size of the donation depends on the size of the bag. For the small tassel bag, the UNHCR receives funding equal to a 6 month supply of hygiene products. This includes such essentials as cotton pads, underwear and soap. For the medium tassel bag, your donation jumps up to a year’s supply and for the market tassel bag, UNHCR receives funding equal to a kitchen kit of pots and pans plus plates and utensils for a family of five.
Since these women have often fled their homes with nothing, these essentials that most of us take for granted literally change their lives, allowing them to leave their tents at all times of the month, to bathe themselves, and to prepare food for their families. Your gift of a donation gives these women hope by supporting their dignity and self reliance. And hope always changes the world.
